General questions about the economics and languages pathway
Where can I find information on national expectations?
On the Parcoursup website: https: //www.parcoursup.fr
Then "recherche une formation
And "Double licence - Economics and management / Applied foreign languages".
What are the selection criteria?
Students are selected on the basis of an application including grades from the 1st and 12th years of secondary school, a CV and a covering letter outlining the student's career prospects and experience. Very good language skills are required. All national expectations are posted on the Parcoursup website to help you choose your specialties and options at the Lycée.
Are there many candidates?
There are around 850 applications in Economics-Management/Languages (850 in Grenoble and 450 in Valence). All candidates whose applications meet the selection criteria are selected, and there are 35 places available in Grenoble and 25 in Valence.
What languages can I study?
English (language A) is compulsory, and a language B must be chosen. On the Grenoble site, we offer: German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian. The Valence site offers German or Spanish.
Do I need to have the same level in language A as in language B?
In principle, yes, students should have a similar level in both languages A and B. However, students can choose their B language either with an advanced level, or with a beginner's level. In the latter case, the Bachelor's degree will be obtained in four years (German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian).
What should your cover letter include?
The wish examination committee ranks applications according to the candidates' academic level, their skills and know-how, and their motivation for training.
The academic level is a key criterion for the selection committee. In the general stream, in addition to results in core subjects, the commission assesses the coherence of the training project in relation to the choice of specialty subjects. A very good level in English and a second foreign language is required. General courses are better suited to this pathway than some technological and vocational courses.
The wish committee draws the attention of candidates to the drafting of the reasoned training project. Candidates will be prejudiced by spelling mistakes or letters that do not include the reasons for their decision.
The cover letter must set out your objectives and tastes. It should include all the elements that can support your application: experience abroad, specific language training (European or international classes, for example), as well as elements that demonstrate your interest in the studies you are planning. The cover letter should be carefully written and free of spelling mistakes.
What are the timetables for the Eco-Management and Languages double degree?
Approximately 25 hours per week, including 6 hours in each of the two languages. Students follow all the language courses in the LEA license, as well as the core subjects in economics and management. The number of hours is not insignificant, as students are preparing for two licenses, the Licence Economie-Gestion and the Licence LEA.
What type of baccalaureate is required to enter the Eco-Management Languages double degree?
The general stream offers the best guarantees. Students with non-general baccalaureate backgrounds find it much harder to adapt to the requirements. Specialization choices can be based on the national expectations presented on Parcoursup.
Do I have to have done economics in high school to be admitted?
No, the concepts covered in the series are fully repeated and expanded upon in 1st year. Having taken economics courses is nevertheless useful, as it gives you a certain familiarity with economic concepts and reasoning, and above all reduces the risk of misdirection.
Are the math requirements very high?
Mathematics and statistics are indispensable tools in economics and management. You need to be at ease with these tools, and have at least the required average level of complementary maths in Terminale. There will be no support courses in Maths in Licence 1.
Is it possible to do part of the degree abroad?
Yes, the 3rd year can be spent in one of UGA's partner universities, in the European Union and the rest of the world (the list of European universities can be consulted on the Faculty of Economics website, and that of non-European universities on the UGA website). Every year, 80 to 90% of students take advantage of this opportunity.
An internship is required at the end of the 2nd year, and must take place abroad.
