FAQ Bachelor's degree in economics and management Law

Specific questions about the Economics-Management-Law course

What are the selection criteria?

A good level in subjects that demonstrate your ability to write (French, philosophy), your appetite for the mathematics and statistics that are essential in economics and management (bac ES program), a good level in English and your curiosity about economic and social issues (history-geography and economic and social sciences for ES students, or economics and economics for STMG students). Preference is given to well-balanced profiles with no gaping holes that would be very difficult to make up later on, given the heavy workload involved in a double degree.

Are there many candidates?

There are around 250 applicants. All candidates whose applications meet the selection criteria are selected. In fact, in previous years, all those with the required level were offered a place, as not all places were filled.

What are the timetables for the Economics, Management and Law double degree?

Approximately 30 hours per week. Students take core subjects in economics and management, as well as law. The number of hours is not insignificant, as students are preparing for two licenses, the Licence Economie-Gestion and the Licence de Droit. Candidates should be aware that they will need to be extremely hard-working and persevering.

What type of baccalaureate is best suited to success in the Eco-Management-Law double degree?

The general ES, S and L series offer the best guarantees. Students from non-general baccalaureate backgrounds find it much harder to adapt to the demands of law or economics/management.

Do I have to have done economics in high school to be admitted?

No, the concepts covered in the ES series are fully repeated and expanded upon in 1st year. Having studied in the ES series is nevertheless useful, as it gives you a certain familiarity with economic concepts and reasoning, and above all reduces the risk of misdirection.

Are the math requirements very high?

Mathematics and statistics are indispensable tools in economics and management. You need to be at ease with these tools and have the average level required in the ES series. The program is by no means insurmountable!

Can I spend part of my studies abroad?

Yes, but not before the 1st year of the Master's program.

What are the possibilities for reorientation?

If they are having difficulty in economics, students can switch to an economics/management degree (or to a law degree). This opportunity is available at the end of each semester.

What are the success rates?

There is only one year of hindsight, due to the very recent creation of the Licence. No L1 failures in this launch year.

Are courses shared with students from the Economics degree?

It depends. Some courses are shared with the Licence d'Économie Gestion. Finally, there are also courses specific to the Eco Droit Licence.

Are all courses lecture-based?

Not all of them. Some courses are taught as lectures, while others (tutorials) are taught in small groups (around 30-35 students).

Can I take languages other than legal English and business English?

Yes, in the case of bonus or optional subjects, it is possible to enroll at the Faculté de Langues (in the same building in Valence) to take other language courses, subject to timetable accounting.... Which can sometimes prove difficult!

Are there many Bachelor's degrees in Economics, Management and Law in France?

To our knowledge, there are only a dozen or so, and most of them are located in the Paris region.

Is it a disadvantage to study at a small college like Valencia?

Absolutely not. Even though this double Bachelor's degree exists only at the Valence site, the Valence Faculty is a delocalized branch of the Grenoble Faculty of Economics, with shared teaching staff and a similar administrative structure. Law lecturers are also equally active on both sites.

What are the career prospects for the Bachelor's degree in economics and management (Licence Economie Gestion-Droit)?

Students with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Management and Law can enroll in either a Master's degree in Economics or a Master's degree in Law, and can also benefit from a partnership with a Grenoble business school (GEM).

How can I find out more about the Bachelor's degree in economics and management (Licence Economie Gestion-Droit)?

Any questions you may have about the double degree program can be answered in the course brochure, which can be downloaded from the Faculty of Economics website.
