Validation of prior learning: VAE

Continuing education - VAE

Accessing training through VAE

VAE enables anyone in working life to obtain all or part of a higher education diploma by recognizing the knowledge and skills acquired through professional and personal experience(articles R613-32 to R613-37 of the French Education Code).

What are the requirements?

- Proof of at least one year's experience in a professional and/or extra-professional activity directly related to the targeted certification. This experience must provide evidence of all or part of the knowledge and skills required to obtain the diploma.

- The number of applications is limited per calendar year: a single application for the same diploma and a maximum of three applications for different diplomas.

ATTENTION: There is a fee for this procedure. To find out the fees, please visit the VAE page on the UGA website.

The main stages in the VAE procedure at the Faculty of Economics

Once you have chosen the diploma you wish to apply for, your VAE application will follow the steps below (the order of these steps may vary depending on the diploma you are applying for):

Step 1: Find your way around and get informed

- Visit the VAE national website

- Download the VAE candidate's guide "Defining your project and finding your bearings".

Step 2: Preparing the admissibility file

Download and complete the VAE admissibility file, which includes the following information:

- Cerfa n°12818*2 form

- Explanatory note n°5126#02 for the Cerfa form

- Additional information on Cerfa form n°12818*2

- Send your application to the UGA Continuing Education Department: fc-VAE-DEG-SHS@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr

Step 3: Pre-file opinion

- Your pre-application will be examined, and you may be invited to an interview to assess the admissibility of your request.

- The administrative admissibility of the application is determined on the basis of years of experience directly related to the diploma.

- The pedagogical admissibility of the application is examined by the teacher responsible for the diploma, on the basis of the information contained in the admissibility file. It consists of a pedagogical positioning and aims to identify whether the candidate's acquired experience can effectively correspond to the expectations of the diploma applied for.

- A positive response: you can continue with your project.

- Reserved response: your experience does not seem to match the level or diploma you have chosen. A new proposal may be made. You have the choice of continuing the process.

- Negative answer: your application is not admissible.

This stage is designed to ensure that candidates do not embark on the rest of the procedure without a real chance of success. Indeed, the next stage involves building up a substantial file: the VAE dossier.

If your application is accepted, the following steps will tell you how to proceed with the validation process.

- Your pre-application will be examined, and you may be invited to an interview to assess the admissibility of your request.

- If you are accepted, you will be invited to put together a definitive file (including registration at the University).

Step 4: Information meeting :

For some training courses, a group information meeting is offered to present the administrative procedures and the support system.

Step 5: Contractualization :

- Signature of the contract or support agreement (if you choose to be supported) and validation agreement (jury) with the UGA continuing education department fc-VAE-DEG-SHS@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr

Our support consists of guiding you through the process of writing your VAE application, and helping you to set priorities and focus your work. It enables you to relate your experience to the chosen diploma. Interviews with candidates take place either individually or in groups. Discussions can also take place by e-mail or telephone, particularly when candidates are far away. The details will be explained to you by the people who will be accompanying you. Coaching is not free of charge, but is strongly recommended.

- Receive the documents you need to start preparing your application, your interview and information on the schedule.

Step 6: Drafting and submitting the VAE application form

The file presents your experience in relation to the various Teaching Units (UE) of the training program. The VAE dossier is demanding and complex, requiring a high level of involvement on the part of the candidate. It includes :

- A detailed personal presentation, outlining your motivations and the elements necessary for the jury to understand your approach.

- An analysis of experience (definition of functions, content of tasks carried out...) and an enhancement of experience by translating skills into knowledge, know-how and aptitudes.

- It enables us to assess your personal and professional career path, the skills and know-how you have acquired, your previous education and training, and your personal work.

You should endeavor to highlight all the elements listed above in a clear and comprehensible manner. The jury's assessment will also depend on the quality of your presentation.

Step 7: The VAE jury

You present your career path and acquired skills, and answer questions before a jury made up of academics and professionals responsible for deciding whether to award a total or partial VAE qualification. The jury verifies that the experience you have acquired corresponds to the knowledge, skills and competencies required by the reference framework of the diploma in question.

Step 8: The jury and its decision

The jury is sovereign and may, after deliberation, decide on :

- Full validation and award of the diploma. The diploma is the same as that obtained through other existing channels (continuing education, initial training, sandwich courses).

- Partial validation. In this case, the jury specifies the nature of the competencies, skills and knowledge to be tested. In this case, recommendations will be made, either to acquire the missing UEs through continuing education, or by taking part in a simulation and/or producing additional work.

- Refusal to validate.
