Master 1 and 2 Métiers de l'Enseignement, de l'Éducation et de la Formation (MEEF) 2nd level - Economics and Social Sciences pathway

Master's degree in teaching, education and training at secondary level

Master's degree presentation

The Master MEEF (Métiers de l'Enseignement, de l'Education, et de la Formation), SES (Sciences Economiques et Sociales) course, is a high-level training program designed to prepare high school SES teachers in all its dimensions: disciplinary, didactic and pedagogical. It therefore has a dual objective: to prepare students for the CAPES Externe de SES competitive examination and to enhance their professional skills.

The syllabus meets national specifications and balances the following courses:

  • Common culture (inclusive schools, digital technology, languages) ;
  • Introduction to research (dissertation articulated between M1 and M2);
  • Disciplinary courses (sociology, political science, economics, written and oral methodology for the competitive examination);
  • Didactic teaching (putting students to work, making sense of teaching, teaching practices) ;
  • Internships (observation and practice in M1, alternating work experience or accompanied practice in M2).

The M1 year offers a range of teaching and training courses (written and oral) designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the CAPES Externe de SES competitive examination. It is structured around theoretical and practical courses, both general and specialized, to give students a broad mastery of the social sciences, while enabling them to develop areas of scientific and pedagogical specialization (possibly leading to a doctoral thesis in one of the three disciplines - subject to the rules linked to passing the competitive examination and civil servant status). There is a 6-week compulsory internship with an SES teacher, equivalent to two weeks in the first semester and 4 weeks in the second.

The M2 year is designed to further reinforce the knowledge and skills needed to pass the CAPES Externe (written eligibility exam in March, oral admission exam in June), and is structured around a long internship (supervised teaching by a SES teacher tutor over 1 day/week) or a contractual sandwich course (6h/week of independent teaching), both of which are paid.

The main career prospects for the Master MEEF are therefore teaching social sciences in high schools, as a full professor if you pass the competitive entrance exam, or as a contract teacher if you fail. But it is also an excellent preparation for the Agrégation Externe de SES or for a doctoral thesis on teaching or education.
